General Information

Our department started education and research activities in 1982. Adaptation, plant pattern, planting systems, agricultural techniques, soil preparation, fertilization, alternation, disease-pest-drought, suitable for ecology, with academic-level projects prepared in order to contribute to the solution of problems related to various ecologies of our region and our country, especially in the Field Crops Department. - Research on the development of varieties resistant to adverse conditions such as salinity, application and research fields of agricultural biotechnology and adding value to the products obtained from production and research. In order to support our education and research activities, we have molecular biotechnology, plant tissue culture, forage crops, grain analysis laboratory, industrial plants laboratories and controlled and semi-controlled plant production greenhouses. 50 decares of production area connected to the Agricultural Research and Application Center is used for researches and student applications. Students studying in this section will prepare themselves for the future with a competent staff specialized in different fields. Our students who are trained in field crops modern production techniques, plant breeding and sustainable agriculture will have national and international equipment.


The gains that our graduates will gain as a result of the courses they have taken are as follows:

• The student has basic knowledge in the fields of Basic Sciences, General Engineering and Agricultural Engineering and Field Crops.

• The student has sufficient knowledge and skills in the fields of genetics, physiology, ecology, cultivation, breeding, seed production and biotechnology of field crops.

• The student determines efficient and quality production methods in the field of Field Crops, develops methods for solving problems, if any.

• The student recognizes Industrial Plants, Cereals and Edible Legumes and Meadow Pasture and Forage Crops, and produces qualified and reliable foods.

• The student selects modern techniques, tools and materials and selects reliable crops in field crops cultivation.

• The student knows and applies alternative production systems such as tillage, irrigation, fertilization, combating disease-pests, organic and good agriculture in field crops cultivation.

• The student protects the environment, natural resources and biodiversity, brings it to the economy and ensures its sustainability.

• The student knows and applies post harvest harvesting, storage, standardization and quality criteria of crops obtained from field crops.

• The student reaches up-to-date information about the field, researches resources, uses databases and other information resources, advises, prepares presentations and projects.

• The student conducts individual and team work, takes responsibility, and solves problems related to its field.

• The student has awareness of lifelong learning and self-renewal.

• The student knows and follows laws and regulations related to his profession.

• The student has ethical awareness with its professional rights, powers and responsibilities.


Students who graduated from Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Field Crops Program, have the ability to use their knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, biology, physiology and engineering in the field of field crops production, modern developments in agriculture sector, new methods and approaches, plant breeding, natural resources and environment They have gains such as having sufficient knowledge and awareness on issues such as protection.



Working Areas of Graduates

Graduates of the Field Crops Department can find jobs in a wide range of fields. First of all, 80% of the agricultural land in Turkey Crop farming is done. Moving from here;


• The graduates can work as an Agricultural Engineer in the public sector, as well as in Agricultural Credit Cooperatives, Pankobirlik, Çaykur, Tariş etc. organizations and affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture and institutions affiliated to this ministry. At Customs or Abroad Agricultural Agencies,

• Seed Production and Seed Industry in the Private Sector

• In breeding organizations aimed at breeding varieties and developing new varieties

• Medical Aromatic Plants production and drug preparation sector,

• In agriculture-based industrial facilities (green, cotton, potato, sugar beet, bakery products, legumes and spices industry, vegetable edible oil oil factories or cookie sunflower, primarily in the field of agriculture, grass field germination and maintenance,

• Feed industry, forage crops production, pulp, silage etc. in rough and concentrated feed sector,

• In the tobacco and cigarette industry,

• In areas requiring dealership such as Agrochemicals, Fertilizer, Seed, Feed,

• They have the right to work by getting a dealership certificate as an Agricultural Engineer.

• From renewable energy sources, in biodiesel and bioethanol plants,

• In companies for licensed warehousing and storage of agricultural products,

• In national or international companies that import, export and trade agricultural products,

• In centers that perform tissue culture or biotechnological studies,

• They have the equipment to produce field products demanded by many main products or markets in their own plants efficiently.
