Department of Soil Sciences and Plant Nutrition

  • Department of Soil Sciences and Plant Nutrition
  • About Us

General Information

Our department was established in 1982 as the Soil Department within the Faculty of Agriculture. Since its establishment, it has continuously improved with the research it has done in its field and the Agricultural Engineers it has trained. Many research projects have been carried out in our department to produce solutions to the problems of the region and country agriculture. The Department of Soil Science and Plant examines and plans the mapping and classification of soils, land use planning, and management systems. Also,  our department conducts studies on soil degradation, erosion, transport, and movement of nutrients and chemicals in the soil, soil organisms, and their relations between soil, plants and themselves, prevention of soil and water pollution and solutions, climate change and its impact on soil and plants. It is a branch of science that is very closely related to the sciences of physics, chemistry, biology, geology, and ecology. Students studying in this department will prepare themselves for the future with competent staff specialized in different fields. In our world where sustainable agriculture and healthy food production is at the forefront today, our students who are trained in this field will have national and international knowledge and skills. Our department has Soil Chemistry, Plant Nutrition, Soil Quality and Biology, and Soil Physics Laboratories to support our education and research activities.
